Best Dessert 2013: Mah-Ze-Dahr Oatmeal Chocolate Caramel Bars

Sure, it’s the Monday after Thanksgiving, so maybe dessert is not foremost in your mind. However, it is in ours. Not that that is anything new, but we truly had a life-changing dessert moment this weekend. Our gracious hosts Elettra and James know good food, and Elettra’s from scratch Thanksgiving dinner was, real talk, the best we’ve ever had, but nothing prepared us for the Mah-Ze-Dahr bars she brought from NYC for dessert. The signature treat of Mah-Ze-Dahr bakery, each bar is a block of buttery, salty-sweet goodness. An oatmeal brown sugar cookie base is topped with pecans and chocolate chunks, and the whole lot is baked in a brown butter salted caramel sauce. It’s a ridiculously perfect balance of crunchy, chewy, melt-in-your-mouth-ness. These bars were the talk of the weekend — we renamed them crack bars (for obvious reasons) — and we are 100% making sure they will be present at Christmas dinner, too. These deserve the highest accolade you can bestow on a dessert. A dessert Oscar, if you will.
