Belgium has long been known for its fashion scene, particularly in Antwerp where many of its most successful designers are based. Now with Opening Ceremony celebrating the country’s esteemed design standards through emerging talent and more established peeps for Fall 13 through Spring 14 including Chauncey, Jan-Jan Van Essche, Kim Mee Hye, Lena Lumelsky, Niels Peeraer, Raf Simons and more, the country is about to get some serious visibility on international fashion markets. One of our favorites (and one that’s not included in O.C.’s lineup) is Filles A Papa, a tomboy-inspired line from sisters Sarah and Carol Piron, who take inspiration from the likes of Debbie Harry and Kim Gordon. Naturally, we are also into that vibe. We are all over that varsity streetwear thing right now. Highlights of summer 2013 include bikinis with ‘tomboy’ emblazoned across the chest, elegant criss-cross string-back tops and neon one-pieces. At the other end of the spectrum is a white crepe blazer with gold lurex and a white ‘F’, which we know stands for ‘Filles’ but really it could stand for Fiona, right? Need.
