We often fantasize about being nature goddesses. You know, breathing in glorious fresh air, hiking, biking, skiing, exploring the wonders of this great world in which we live — basically becoming one with nature. Unfortunately, memories of past camping efforts without running water, real beds and hairdryers still linger. So you can imagine how Basecamp South Lake Tahoe, a new 50-room hotel opening on June 20, 2012 piqued our interest. This eco-friendly green hotel is a simple haven from which to explore the wonders of the great outdoors, without sacrificing our creature comforts or losing sleep because you’re scared of being mauled to death by a grizzly bear.
The hotel’s cozy lobby is described as its heart, a communal environment where you will meet new people and share stories with other adventure-seekers, you know, fellow adventure seekers who enjoy showers and full-length mirrors.
There’s firepits and a rooftop hot tub, where you’ll likely find us, smiling, with drink in hand. There’s robes! And the orange accents are just perfectly matched to whatever newly-purchased Hermes we’ve packed! The hotel is mere minutes from the lake and the Heavenly Gondola and some of the rooms are pet-friendly, so your pooch will have the chance to hear the call of the wild too. Just don’t let the Maltese out or we could have a case of a Jessica Simpson and her poor kidnapped-by-a-coyote Daisy.
Basecamp South Lake Tahoe is not so luxurious you feel like a cheat though. It’s just like, if you want to not have greasy hair and like using real toilets. And if you say you don’t like real toilets, then we probably can’t be friends.
