We like a spa-like environment, be it at our dermatologist’s office, our dentist’s… anywhere you can offer us a hot towel and a massage chair when we have to do something we’d rather not is very much appreciated. Not that pilates is in any way similar to a sesh in the dentist’s chair, obviously. Plank on the Lower East Side has a most peaceful spa-like environment with tasteful, understated décor (bare brick walls and reclaimed wood flooring) and all these unexpected little extras. For example, instead of boring bottle water they have a fridge full of mason jars filled with water with a slice of lemon and cucumber in each (so chic!), eucalyptus towels for after class, plus the bathroom has nice soaps and lotions, and a padded bench for your stuff if you need to change. The street-level studio is a light, airy space with tower/mat classes for one to five people, plus space for a one-on-one lesson. It’s chill and informal, with a perfect energy. It’s pleasing just being there.
Tower classes are $25 per session, while mat classes are $10. There’s a special for the month of August for three mat classes for $24 Plankpilates.com/
