Rebecca Dayan’s Debut Solo Exhibition Assumption Is Giving Us Virgin Mary Meets Virgin Suicides

DayanCover Culture // Exhibitions

It’s rare we attend an art show where we would truly love to own a piece, but the desire was at level 10 on Tuesday evening when we attended the opening of Rebecca Dayan’s Assumption exhibition in Soho. A model/actress, Rebecca is about to play a nun in an upcoming movie, and during her research for the role she discovered the similarities between nuns love for god and a young woman’s feelings for her first love. Consequently, she was inspired to create a series of watercolors that are very Virgin Mary meets Virgin Suicides. Dreamy pastel shades with visions of Mary juxtaposed with sultry lips, we can fully see one of these in every room of our house. If only!

Assumption runs through October 11 at Catherine Ahnell Gallery New York, 66 Grand Street, New York, NY.
Check out a few of the pieces in the slideshow below.
