“Ugh that place!” is probably what you would have heard in relation to Montauk nightlife spot The Surf Lodge increasingly over the past few summers. It’s not that that the place itself is horrible, far from it. It’s cute as hell, but was more about the line of cars wrapping around the pond, the drunken louts, the noise — God, the noise. This isn’t what we came to Montauk for! Summer 2012 though is a whole different scene. There’s yoga on the deck! There are pressed juice deliveries from The Juicy Naam if you want to cleanse! And there’s a whole new food situation happening. Byrne Notice friends the Highlands Restaurant Group completely overhauled the restaurant with Australian chef Chris Rendell so there’s a super-clean feeling, lots of white and blue in the décor, giving a simple and fresh feeling that extends through to the menu, which focuses on daily caught seafood. There’s Sunday brunch, which if opening weekend was anything to go by, will be the go-to brunch spot in Montauk. There’s no DJ, no unlimited mimosas and no hectic vibes whatsoever, just a nice breeze and peace.
