We fell in love twice when we saw What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? back in the day. Once with Johnny Depp and the other with the airstream trailer in which Juliette Lewis’ character lived. That moment when she pushes his hair back and kisses him is legit one of our most major 90’s movie memories. Swoon! On the airstream tip, we were very excited to hear about restaurateur Zach Lynd’s project with chef Sam Talbot at Ditch Plains beach in Montauk. At the Dirt Lot entrance to the beach (the one where all the surfer’s park their trucks and hang out and stuff), Lynd and Talbot have parked Turf, their adorable airstream food truck. All day long, the pair make sick food for lines of customers and chill with their surfer buddies at the chic, beachy picnic tables outside. Regular menu items include fresh homemade juices (one popular concoction is watermelon, lemon, turmeric and aloe) and a cold ratatouille and lobster roll, as well as a kale salad with avocado and pine nuts that is maybe the best we’ve ever had. Love a pine nut! To surf and turf has never been more appealing.
