Shipping containers have given us the fear ever since we saw a TV show where a woman was kidnapped and taken to an empty container on expansive dock someplace, where she would never be found. Then there was the whole Dexter mom murder thing. Containers just don’t sit well with us! However, we faced our fear this week when we stepped inside the sick new BOFFO Building Fashion retail installation at the Super Pier. Linda Farrow collaborated with architects Neiheiser & Valle to transform the container and surrounding space into an “infinite landscape of stone and light”. Eyewear is displayed on jutting gold beams suspended from gravely slopes, and surrounded by mirrored walls and ceiling to create a feeling of infinity. Even the most extreme claustrophobes could probably feel quite comfortable in this thing. The installation is open until December 24 and offers a selection of eyewear from the Linda Farrow collection, as well as its international designer collaborations including the the SS14 collaboration collections with Suno and 3.1 Phillip Lim, as well as Dries Van Noten, Jeremy Scott, Oscar de la Renta, The Row, and Prabal Gurung. Credit cards only.
