After Years Of Waiting, Les Docks Fashion And Design Centre In Paris Is Finally Open

Sometimes, something is so long awaited it turns into something of an urban legend and in Paris, there was a running joke about the official opening of Les Docks, the fashion and design center highlighting the creations of young designers. Since 2008, all we knew was that a part of it was occupied by the Institut Français de la Mode and uh, that’s it. So, there was actually kind of a sense of disbelief when it finally opened a couple of weeks ago.

No lie… it’s huge. An old warehouse, almost 50,000 sq. ft. over four levels in reinforced concrete, covered by a weird green industrial diamond. Designed by architects Jakob+MacFarlane, inside it’s amazing: a giant raw maze where you can acquire an instant PhD in fashion culture (thanks to two awesome exhibits dedicated to Cristobal Balenciaga and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons), go bananas shopping for yourself (Yiqing Yin’s Couture, Rick Owens, Manish Arora, Bleu de Paname, PGL by Pigalle) and your home (Silvera Outdoor and the two galleries M1 and M3).

And there’s food, yo! Stop by the Café Praliné, if only to taste the old-fashioned hot chocolate and cheesecake (we died) or the gluten-free cookies.

The crowning glory though, is the Moon Roof, a gigantic, 3,000-sq.-ft. neo-bistro under the sky open all day, and all night. And that’s not all. Coming soon are Le Clap, (Le Baron’s newest locashe under the stars) and the Wanderlust by the Silencio crew. Fuck yeah, Paris!
